What is on this site
This site is for people who use computers—whether you’re troubleshooting a frozen Windows update, setting up a Linux server for the first time, or just trying to make Outlook stop eating your attachments. We cover operating systems, software, hardware, and the everyday problems that come with them.
The site is divided into clear sections: *Guides* for step-by-step fixes, *Reviews* for hardware and software comparisons, *News* for updates that matter, and *Tips* for small tricks that save time. If you’re lost, start with the search bar or the menu at the top.
| Where | What is there | Go here if |
|---|---|---|
| Guides | Troubleshooting and setup instructions | your PC is acting up |
| Reviews | Hardware and software comparisons | you’re buying new gear |
| News | Tech updates and explanations | you need context on a recent change |
| Tips | Quick fixes and productivity hacks | you’re stuck on a small issue |
How to read a page here
Every page follows the same structure: a clear heading, a short intro explaining what the article covers, and numbered steps or sections where they apply. Timings are in minutes unless otherwise noted, and measurements use standard units (e.g., MB, GHz).
Numbers in the text (like *Step 3*) link to that section—click them to jump ahead. Ignore the ‘Also see’ box on a first read unless you’re curious about related topics. If a guide mentions ‘advanced,’ it’s optional unless marked required.
On review pages, specs are listed upfront so you can skip to what matters. News posts include timestamps for when updates were confirmed, not just published. Always check the date at the top to avoid outdated advice.
When it does not work

If a guide fails, it’s usually because of a missed detail—not the instructions. Double-check your OS version (Windows 10 vs. 11 behave differently), driver updates, or permissions. Some steps assume a clean install; if you’re upgrading, note where the guide says ‘skip if already configured.’
Before you give up
- Verify your software/hardware matches the guide’s requirements
- Restart your PC and retry the steps from the beginning
- Check for updates to the software or drivers mentioned
- Search the site for ‘[your error code]’—it may have a fix elsewhere
Who we are

This site is built by someone who remembers the frustration of a computer that wouldn’t cooperate—and the relief when it finally did.
| The colophon | |
|---|---|
| Written by | Rosalind Dubois, who runs the site and writes most of the guides, with a focus on clarity over jargon |
| Tested in | A mid-2010s desktop with a dual-boot Windows/Linux setup, a 2018 MacBook Pro for cross-platform checks, and a Raspberry Pi for embedded troubleshooting |
| Written with | VS Code for code snippets, OBS Studio for screen recordings, and a mechanical keyboard that’s seen better days |
| Learned from | A high school tech teacher who taught patience, and a sysadmin friend who explained why ‘just reboot’ is often the answer |
| Still getting wrong | Assuming ‘new’ software is always better than stable—some of the best tools are forgotten, not obsolete |
The goal isn’t to make you an expert overnight, but to give you the confidence to fix what’s broken—and the tools to ask the right questions when you’re stuck.
If you need something that is not here
We focus on common problems, but tech moves fast. If you’re looking for niche hardware, a specific software version, or a troubleshooting scenario we haven’t covered, let us know.
The contact page is where to ask—we’ll either point you to a guide you missed or add it to the list for future updates.
The guides are grouped by category: App, Coding, Hardware, Operating System, Outlook and PowerPoint.
